Bukit Gasing rep sets up subsidised wound care services in constituency

A PILOT subsidised wound care treatment service has been set up in the Bukit Gasing constituency in Selangor to treat patients who face difficulty getting affordable treatment.

Responding to requests from residents in his constituency, state rep Rajiv Risyakaran helped set up the subsidised wound care treatment with MyHealerDoc, a Malaysian healthcare platform that connects patients with licensed healthcare providers.

“People need wound care service. It will take time for this service to pick up as we need to create awareness, especially for the B40 group,” Rajiv told The Malaysian Insight.

With this service, healthcare personnel will visit patients at home to dress their wounds at a subsidised cost.

The MyHealerDoc app is available for download on the Apple Store and Google Play. Those wanting to get the subsidy will only have to register and provide their details.

Rajiv said Bukit Gasing constituents will have access to the wound care services at a reduced cost of RM60 per session, while B40 residents will benefit further with a subsidised rate of RM30 per session.

“The actual cost is RM90 per session, I’m subsidising it from my allocation.”

Rajiv said MyHealerDoc will be able to check based on the address and location if the patient is from Bukit Gasing.

He said this pilot project should be taken nationally as there are people all over in need of wound care.

“We hope the Health Ministry looks into this because this service is needed by the people.”

According to MyHealerDoc, there are 2.4 million Malaysians in need of wound care where 1.9 million are diabetics who struggle with wound recovery.

Rajiv said one of the issues diabetic patients with wounds face is that they are immobile.

“This is one of the challenges for patients who need wound care. Some are stuck at home and find it difficult to go to the clinic for treatment.

“Some may need their children who are working to take half a day’s leave to accompany their parents to the clinic.

“If the wound does not get proper care, it could lead to amputation and lower quality of life,” he said.

He said some patients are facing financial difficulties and cannot afford to call for a Grab.

“There are no government clinics here and the nearest is at Taman Medan. If someone wants to get to the clinic in a Grab, it will cost them about RM60 for a round trip.

“Of course, government clinics are much cheaper where they only charge RM1, but not many patients are able to go there.

“A lot of the patients who need wound care cannot travel by themselves, so they need assistance.” – May 25, 2024.
